DeMotte Indiana, once know as the “Little Village”, celebrated the opening
of its first retail store, Seth Bentley’s small general store in 1876. 130
years have passed and the town has prospered to the dynamic town that it
is today. Businesses in diverse professions now cater to the town
population spreading over 4 miles. DeMotte is the 7th fastest
growing community in Indiana, developing its potential in infrastructural
assets well into to the 21st. century.
The DeMotte Chamber of Commerce was first organized in 1967 and serves the
business community. Today, DeMotte’s successful Chamber of Commerce is
structured to operate on a day-to-day basis by a 12-member board of
directors. The directors meet monthly on the first Friday of the month at
7 a.m. The directors serve staggered terms and are elected from among the
Chamber membership. Special projects sponsored by the Chamber are assigned
to committees and are overseen by a chosen board of director member. The
DeMotte Chamber of Commerce currently has 155 members.
The DeMotte Chamber of Commerce supported 2007 Community Guide has
recently been released and is available at several locations: DeMotte Town
Hall, Chamber of Commerce Office, Kankakee Valley Post News building, and
the DeMotte Library. A DeMotte street map is available as well.
